Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes battled for a 3-2 win over the visiting Red Deer Rebels tonight at the ENMAX Centre. New comer Daniel Iwanski kicked things off midway through the first period with his first ever WHL preseason goal on the power play. St. Albert’s Adam Chorneyko would then put the ‘Canes up 2-0 with another power play marker heading into the second period as the boys from the bridge out shot the Rebs 8-5.
Red Deer fought back with two in the second period from Cass Mappin and CHL Import Draft pick Tomas Polak, but it was second year forward Adam Matlock who tallied the game winner in the second. The Hurricanes power play went 2 for 7 on the evening while holding the Rebels to a dismal 2 for 11 with the man advantage. Michael Maniago made 9 saves on 11 shots while Finnish goaltender Juha Metsola let in 1 goal on 7 shots.
